Frumpy to City Slicker Furniture Makeover

No lie!
This piece had great bones when I bought it but I honestly NEVER brought a piece of furniture home with so
much “child like carvings” on it.
My first thought was, “please, get this child some paper!”

I sanded and sanded and sanded.

It became a diamond in the rough and now I had a problem.

My plan was to do a all over navy with silver wax but then I saw this gorgeous wood grain and opted to not cover all of it.

Moving on to Plan B…

I decided to water down the midnight navy paint from General Finishes with a 25 / 75 paint / water ratio. I then applied this to the top,  sides and the drawers. LOVE!! This application allowed the grain to peek through but with a navy tint.  I painted the trim, legs and top drawer in the solid navy.

This is where the silver wax came in to the picture.  CeCe Caldwell’s makes a easy to apply silver wax.  I wanted to use this over the solid paint and maybe add an edge to the stained areas….BUT, that didn’t turn out as well as I hoped.

Plan C? Yes, please.

After help from my Facebook Live followers, I sanded the two drawers back down and started over.  This time, I just used the watered down paint and held off with the wax on these drawers.

Once I finished completely, I applied a clear coat to to the entire piece, which also helped to bring out the wood grain.
