While Away is a new collection of original watercolor floral paintings by contemporary artist Dionne Woods, known as The Turquoise Iris. Created while Dionne was away on a beach vacation, the collection began simply: watercolor paper, a few favorite supplies, and time to paint without a plan.

Each one-of-a-kind watercolor painting explores loose botanical forms through expressive brushwork, fluid color and the unpredictable movement of water and pigment.

Rather than carefully rendering individual petals, Dionne allows flowers to emerge through transparent washes, layered color, gestural marks and intuitive movement. The result is contemporary abstract floral art that feels collected, colorful and distinctly handmade.

A Note from Dionne

I packed watercolor paper and a few supplies for a beach vacation without any intention of creating a new collection.

I simply wanted to paint while I was away.

These paintings became a record of those hours—water moving across paper, colors running into one another, flowers appearing without being planned and the freedom to follow wherever the painting wanted to go.

That's how While Away began.
