Accessories can really personalize an outfit and I love the way they can be mixed and customized. When I put together outfits, I like to take an artful approach, blending colors and textures and patterns together to create something that’s truly me. But I never thought that I would be releasing a fall hats collection!
Statement pieces, like a handbag, chunky necklace, or a unique hat, are my favorite way to transform an outfit. While a hat collection was never something I anticipated creating, when I received the new Making Powders from DIY Paint I knew that I wanted to try something totally new.

One of a Kind Hat Designs
Each felt hat is custom designed with custom color blends and accessorized with hand dyed silk and velvet ribbons, painted drop cloths, and classic iris pins. This limited edition collection features a dozen hand-painted, one-of-a-kind hats to breathe new life into your wardrobe.
The Magic Hour Collection is named after the golden glow that the sun takes on as the day turns into night. Just like that hour, these hats are the perfect transition from day to night or summer to fall.
My Style Inspiration
I had so much fun making these hats! It was honestly hard not to keep every single one of them. They turned out so beautifully and I think the ribbon details really add something special to these boho beauties.
Each hat features a unique color and ribbon combination and no two are remotely the same. I really enjoyed playing with the details, mixing and matching the strips of fabric and and pins until I had the right balance of color, texture, and pattern.
They were such an inspiration to me that I had to play around with them to create a few looks!
Styling Fall Hats
There is no right way to style a hat, so I really encourage you to have fun with it! A statement piece is just that: a way to make a statement! If you do manage to snag one of these limited edition styles, be sure to send a few pics of your outfits to me, please! You can send them via my contact page, Facebook, or even Instagram.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to style a hat… with my actual outfits! This is how I’d wear each of these fall hats… if I were able to keep them all. Unfortunately, Matt says we don’t have enough space! Hmm, what do you think?
Yikes! Matt might be right. From this angle it looks like they’re taking over my living room! Here is how I would style them, if I could keep them all for myself:
Match color tones. I love the way this coral pink picks up some added warmth from this wrap. These accessories are perfect for throwing on top of a tank and denim shorts or a long sleeve tee and a pair of jeans!
Keep it complementary. The pink tones on this hat are just peachy enough to balance out a blue outfit.
Dress it up! I love pairing a hat with a dress! It always seems extra fancy to me. Add some dangly earrings and a coordinating tote and you’re ready to walk out the door! How easy is that?
Keep it casual. I have had bangs basically forever and anyone with bangs can tell you that, sometimes, you just have to put up with a bad hair day. One of the best things about a cute hat is that it can hide your hair while looking super cute. This outfit is one of my favorites because it features my silk scarf as a belt which really elevates what would normally be a super casual outfit!
Perfectly Practical. Sun protection is no joke! Sometimes it can get so hot at the ballpark when I’m watching my boys play that I can *literally* feel my scalp burning in this hot Oklahoma sun! Baseball caps are fine and all but, sometimes, a girl just wants to look cute! This is pretty sun protection, folks, proving that art can be practical too!
Go big or go home. I said these were a statement piece, didn’t I? Sometimes you want to let your accessories do the talking, so pairing them with a simple backdrop and minimal jewelry can let those personality pieces speak for themselves. While I paired this hat with a simple summer dress, I think that it would look just as cute with an all-black fall outfit, too!
Wearable Art
If you enjoy this collection then you might also enjoy checking out my other merchandise! I have handbags and silk scarves that can transform your outfit just as easily as any hat. In fact, you can see a few of those pieces in the pictures above.
I consider all my merchandise to be wearable art; they look just as good on a wall as they do with your outfit!
