Earlier this month I got to visit Zanesville Ohio for a painting workshop with my dear friends Debi Beard of Debi’s Design Diary, Kelly Wiler of Girl Upcycled, and Canice Blair of Canice Chic!
Y’all, I had SO MUCH FUN in Ohio; it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had at a painting workshop. We had dance parties, we put on a skit, we made new friends and, in between all that fun, we painted a few things!
This was one of the most rewarding workshops I’ve ever been a part of. Honestly, it felt so much more like an experience than a class of any kind. There were 50 attendees there with Debi, Canice, and I. We shared laughter, hugs, and tears, and when it was time to go home I really felt like I was sending them home with more than just some painting tips; I feel like I shared a piece of me.
One of the best things about hosting workshops is not just the live painting, it’s what happens next. When I do live paintings, I like to raffle the finished piece off to one of the attendees. My heart just overflows knowing that the joy I captured in the piece gets to live on forever in someone’s home.
The piece I created for this workshop is (of course) called Zanesville’s Garden! While it’s at home with its owner now, I did manage to sneak a few pictures in before I left.
It started out a flat green and I had a wonderful time turning it into this lush garden.

What a beautiful way to wrap up 2019! I am so grateful for all the joy and challenges this year has brought me and I can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store!
I’m absolutely bummed I missed this! I’m just getting back into painting after YEARS of not painting at all. My previous experience was not as eventful or close to being gratifying! I’m not far from Zanesville and… Well… CRAP! lol! Will there be a next time in Ohio for you?? Hoping for a STRONG “YES!!” ….lol
I was on such a natural high and so honored to win Dionne’s furniture masterpiece she painted! I could barely drive home because I kept tearing up and thanking God to be so lucky! I wanted to do a happy dance when my name was called, but I didn’t want to gloat. These ladies put in a fantastic show! It was so worth the money to attend.
That cabinet is amazing, I love it! Are the flowers a stencil, hand painted or appliqué???
I was disappointed that I couldn’t make this. I had my ticket but a family matter couldn’t be avoided. It looks like you had a great time! I still need to go checkout Girl Upcycled shop.
would LOVE to be part of your Creative Connection!
